Homestead and Mortgage Exemptions Deadline

If you purchased a home this year in Indiana, the Homestead usually is filed by the title company at closing but not always.  It is usually up to the buyer to file any additional exemptions such as Mortgage, Old Age, Veterans, Blind, etc.  These exemptions must be verified and filed prior to December 31 so take just a moment out of your time and check online to see if your exemptions are filed.  Not filing a Homestead can cost you serious money at tax time!
